Mário Macilau
Mário Macilau was born in newly independent Mozambique, during the most critical phase of the civil war. Macilau's family struggled with financial difficulties and moved from the province of Inhambane to the capital, Maputo, in search of better living conditions. At the age of 10, Macilau began working at a small supermarket frequented by the middle and upper classes, washing cars in a parking lot and helping carry shopping bags to their destinations. He developed an interest in photography from a young age, and his journey as a professional began around 2003, solidified in 2007 when he traded his mother's mobile phone for his first camera.
