Maluda

Maria de Lourdes Ribeiro, known as Maluda, was a Portuguese painter born in Pangim, Goa Norte, in 1930. She moved to Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) in 1948, where she began painting and co-founded the art group "Os Independentes." Maluda is known for her urban landscapes, often inspired by Paul Cézanne's approach to Impressionism. She worked in various genres, including portraits, serigraphy, and murals, but her cityscape paintings brought her the most recognition. While her simpler works, used in Portuguese postage stamps, gained popularity, they overshadowed her more complex graphic creations. Maluda held 24 solo exhibitions and her works are represented in major collections such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Centro Cultural de Belém.
